Hawken open beta begins December 12th; here’s a really lovely screenshot

That’s 12.12.12 in the US parlance, of course. Funnily enough there’s a lot going on that day, but by all accounts free-to-play mech messabout sim Hawken is worth clearing your calendar for. This time next week Adhesive Games’ opus enters beta worldwide – everywhere except China, where the game is being publishing at a later date by Kong Zhong.

“Open beta is our chance to implement all the good feedback we’ve gotten from closed beta players on the forums, and deliver the changes the community wants to see”, says lead animator Chris Lalli. “We have so much more to add to Hawken, lots of features, balance changes, and improvements.”

Lalli wants newcomers to step noisily into the game and share their thoughts via Hawken’s forums. That way, players will help mould its future direction.

“The open beta event allows us flexibility to roll out these updates in waves, and get instant player feedback that will influence the final version of the game,” he continues. “The community will really have the ability to shape the game and be part of its development.”

Here’s that screenshot, as promised:

Bloody hell. Nobody ever said Hawken wasn’t pretty, but that’s something else, isn’t it?
