The Battlefield series will be taking a break for a “couple of years”, say EA

Battlefield 4 Titan benchmark

Battlefield usually releases bi-annually, and we already knew the new Star Wars Battlefront would be filling its boots in its year off in 2017, but it looks like Battlefield could possibly skip 2018 too.

Talking at the Nasdaq 35th Investor Program, EA’s chief financial officer BlakeJorgensen said that the publishers “won’t have another Battlefield back for a couple of years. Next year we’ll have Battlefront, the Star Wars game.”

Surely EA will still want to fill that shooter gap with something. Titanfall 3, anyone?

Currently, though, all the company’s focus is on Star Wars Battlefront 2, which will apparently be “much bigger” and “much more exciting” than last year’s sci-fi shooter, with EA looking to work with DICE to address criticisms levelled at it.

“We were very excited about how Star Wars [Battlefront] came out last year,” he said. “It’s a beautiful game, people loved it. I think if there was criticism they just wanted more. And so we’re taking that criticism to heart as we build the next game and trying to address any of the issues that they had.

“The other thing is, we were really working with the old canvas of Star Wars, the old trilogy, we weren’t using any of the new materials that came out of [Episode 8] because our game actually came out slightly before the movie. Next year we’ll have the opportunity to leverage more of that content from the new movies and we think that’ll make the opportunity much larger.”

Expect to be battering folk as Kylo Ren, basically. I also wouldn’t be surprised if it had deeper customisation, and I wouldn’t be against space battles either. If they’re addressing criticisms, seamless space and ground battles surely must be at the top of their to-do list.

Cheers, VideoGamer.
