Battlefield 3: Aftermath DLC will feature new maps, a new mode, and new terrain damage

Comment

Aftermath depicts a “continuing struggle for supremacy and survival amongst the devastation”.

With third Battlefield 3 expansion Armoured Kill still months away, EA’s attention deficit PR crystal ball already turns to reflectively titled fourth DLC release, Aftermath. The expansion will feature four urban maps, as well as new assignments, achievements, dog tags, an as-yet unrevealed game mode, and new terrain types.

Set in the streets of post-earthquake Tehran, the maps will have opposing forces “adapt and engage in vertical and horizontal urban combat amongst the dust and rubble with cracks and fissures in the terrain providing unexpected cover and paths to objectives”. Crikey.

The pack also promises heavily modified military and civilian vehicles - the latter of which have traditionally provided the Battlefield series with some of its most exhilarating cross-map combat, so here’s hoping for more of that.
