Blood Bowl 2 revealed after top secret year of hidden development

In a business where nobody tells you what they’re doing while they’re doing it – game developers are worried you’ll drift off and forget about them unless they surprise you with their games – conspiracy is sort of the standard. That doesn’t stop Cyanide from gleefully telling us that the sequel to their adapted combat sports boardgame has been “secretly under development for a year”, like they’re the victors in a mammoth game of hide-and-seek.

Turns out they were in their offices the whole time!

Blood Bowl, for those without a working knowledge of Games Workshop history, turns American football to fantastical, turn-based ends – usually the violent end of some poor goblin in a flimsy visor. Cyanide developed the last entry, which amassed a dedicated fanbase despite the bevy of bugs it was carrying in its belly.

The above video is intended as a short introduction to the series’ commentators: Jim Johnson (vampire), and ex-star player Bob Bifford (ogre). Cyanide report that they’ll hold newly important roles in the sequel.

“In Blood Bowl 2, Jim & Bob will be with us, flesh and blood, throughout the game,” explain the developers. “They will be modelled, and animated in their Cabalvision studio that will be the main interface for the game!”

Indeed, the entire game will be presented through the medium of Cabalvision, where Jim and Bob will extend their guidance and advice, as well as interview key players from the campaign mode.

I know Blood Bowl became a popular vehicle for impromptu leagues in the years following its release. Were any of you lot involved in that scene?
