Too many mandibles: Infinity Ward preview Ghosts Devastation DLC’s new Extinction map

Time to fill the Kraken. With lead. Sigh. Sorry.

May Day gets a bad rap (and so did Ghosts in our Call of Duty: Ghosts review): once the pole-rappelling celebration of Springtime, it’s now associated with nautical distress and, here, the swarming of a research ship in the South Pacific ocean by angular aliens with saliva so nasty as to suggest glandular meltdown.

That’s thanks to Call of Duty: Ghosts’ Devastation DLC – and specifically Mayday, the second episode in their series of nest-bothering Extinction mode maps.

How many hostile aliens can one map pack hold? Call of Duty: Ghosts’ Devastation DLC is already home to the Predator, and now this gang of “new terrors”: including the “insidious” wall-crawling Seeder and “skyscraper-sized” Kraken.

The Quick Reaction Force team is sent to investigate the ship’s distress signal, before the conventions of survival horror swiftly take over.

Two more Extinction episodes will follow in Ghosts DLC packs; a first, Nightfall, took the four-man team to a remote research base in Alaska to fend off xenos on the behalf of local scientists.

Have you played around with Extinction mode much? Is four-player co-op still the magic number?

Ta, Joystiq.
