Counter-Strike: Global Offensive neuters its new R8 Revolver

CSGO R8 nerf

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive picked up a new weapon this week, and it’s thrown the whole game into chaos. The brutal new R8 Revolver could wipe armoured enemy players out with a single shot; quite the feat for a little hand-gun. After many concerns filed to Valve, the decision has been made to re-balance the weapon in hope of keeping the peace.

Like games with guns in? Then you need to top up your arsenal with these best shooters on PC.

The weapon’s damage values have been reduced, and it now takes longer to fire. Damage is now 86 compared to 115, while the ‘charge time’ has been increased from 0.3333 seconds to 0.4 seconds. There’s also been a change to spread, increased from 0.48 to 0.52. Overall, the R8 is now less punchy and slightly more unwieldy.

“It’s clear that we got the damage wrong and can respond immediately,” said CS:GO’s development team on the game’s blog. “As experience with other new weapons (e.g., CZ75a and M4A1-S) has shown us, it may require several iterations over a longer period to find the stable values that create interesting strategic choices for players. We’re committed to monitoring usage and adjusting the values as required.”

It may take a while for the R8 to settle into its new home then, but at least its makers are putting in the effort to ensure it fits in among its peers. It’s a tough world out there for a new little gun, but hopefully players will learn to love and accept it.
