CD Projekt Red might one day make multiplayer-centric games of Cyberpunk 2077 or The Witcher. Or that’s the hope of John Mamais, head of the studio’s Krakow office, at least.
Speaking to Gamespot, when asked about multiplayer in Cyberpunk 2077, Mamais responded that a full multiplayer game set in the universe is a possibility. The studio is now almost big enough to work on more than one triple-A project at a time, and they hope to take advantage of that as soon as possible. What those new projects are all depends on how Cyberpunk 2077 sells, and how the company are feeling about what’s next on the horizon.
“It’s not for me to say what they’ll be. I can tell you what I hope they’ll be. I like Cyberpunk, I’d like to keep making Cyberpunk games,” Manais said. “I also like The Witcher, I’d like to keep making Witcher-type games. It could be anything. Some new IP or some licensed IP. Who knows? It’s not decided yet.”
CD Projekt Red had previously announced that multiplayer would eventually come to Cyberpunk 2077, just when all the single-player DLC has been finished. To make clear the commitment, the company tweeted out the news with job openings for staff to help build out the non-single-player side.

Barring the stand-alone release of Gwent, CD Projekt has yet to develop a full-fledged multiplayer game. Well-tenured at robust single-player experiences, it would be interesting to see what the studio could do with the format. The audience is certainly there to try it.
