Our best Diablo 3 builds

I’ve been playing a lot of Diablo since Reaper of Souls released back in March. Having accumulated many shiny legendaries since then, I’ve put together my favourite builds for each of the six classes in Sanctuary. They’re all certified for the hardest difficulties Diablo has to offer and will work in both standard and hardcore.

Each build has a link to their skill calculator in the build name, as well as links to any key legendary items. All you need to do is go find them, which is the easy part… right?

Diablo 3's pets are getting buffed; to scale with players toughness

Diablo 3’s pet classes - mainly that of Witch Doctors - have been lamenting at their super squishy pets: especially so with Rift Guardians from Greater Rifts where it’s quite competitive. Thankfully however, game designer John Yang has previewed upcoming changes that will help pets survive, but only be as tough as the player themselves.

“Pets should be roughly as survivable as the player" said Yang. “Pets should take reduced damage on how avoidable the monster attack normally is for the player."

Join our Diablo 3 clan as we jump head first into Seasons

Patch 2.1 for Diablo III is nearly fully deployed, as the new Seasons game mode is launching in less than half an hour here in the EU. If you’re like me in that you sat there anxiously waiting for the floodgates to open, then I have some good news: PCGamesN has its own clan so you don’t have to go it alone, with both softcore and hardcore players.

If you’re looking for some companions to watch your back as you venture into the breech once again, here’s how to join.

Watch Blizzard explain the Diablo III ladder system new in Reaper of Souls 2.1

Diablo III is unprecedented, which is an odd thing to say about a sequel to anything. But it is: an action RPG with the post-release support of an MMO. That means it’s warped into a substantially better game since it was first, briefly finished two summers ago - and even now, after its wildly successful Reaper of Souls expansion, the game grows.

Over the course of a seven-minute video, Blizzard rummage through the new junk in Diablo III’s trunk.

Diablo III gains ladder-like Seasons system in Reaper of Souls 2.1

On the face of it, Diablo III is a cooperative game - but it’s always been played competitively, with one eye on the wider Blizzard community. This first major patch for Reaper of Souls will finally acknowledge that tendency in-game, with a Seasons system that starts players at the bottom, brigand-bothering rung of demon-hunting and compares their performance on leaderboards.

Diablo 3 patch 2.1.0: monster-slaying is always in season

Blizzard’s already teased quite a few details on the upcoming patch 2.1.0 for Diablo III. Just the other day the source of the Treasure Goblins was revealed, and back in June the developer gave a brief overview on the new features coming to Diablo.

But now it’s time to get into the nitty gritty of seasons, where new characters can compete with each other by gathering achievements like they were sweets, all in an attempt to get a coveted spot near the top of the ladder.

Diablo 3 patch 2.1.0 introduces the golden home of the Treasure Goblins: the Vault

Diablo III’s craven, scurrying Treasure Goblins are enigmatic wee beasties. They appear, with their sacks of loot, and are quick to disappear through portals if they aren’t killed and their wealth stolen. Where do they go when they leap through those portals? Is there a land filled with goblins and gold on the other side?

Patch 2.1.0 finally reveals what is through the portal: the Vault.

Diablo III becomes the last major Blizzard game to get a Chinese launch

Diablo III occupies a strange rockpool in the space-time continuum. Just two years old, it feels like it’s been with us forever: never not being streamed, and never quite finished - even after Reaper of Souls.

But there’s still one major market on the planet where Diablo III never arrived: China. Blizzard will partner with local internet company NetEase to lower the final of their five series pillars into place in the region.

Here today: Diablo 3's Auction House will be gone tomorrow

Diablo 3’s often criticised Auction House will finally be removed from reality by Blizzard tomorrow. It was effectively disabled back in March - when we gave the expansion a 9/10 in our Reaper of Souls review - but the Auction House window remained available so that players could retrieve items and gold from previous transactions.

As of tomorrow, that function will also be removed. And it will be gone for good. Any items and gold remaining in the Completed tab will also disappear for good; so empty it now if you’ve got anything in there.

Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls 2.1.0 gets messy with cesspools

The first major content patch for Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is almost upon us; it’s pretty much knocking at the door. It’s appropriately chunky for a major content patch, chucking in new achievements, special rifts, challenge seasons, combat tweaks and a new addition to Adventure Mode: the Cesspools. It’s all a bit exciting, and all we ever wanted from our Reaper of Souls review.

Diablo III's birthday buff proved so popular that Blizzard are keeping it

It turns out Diablo III is one of those insufferable types who insists everybody celebrate their “birthday week". But it at least had the decency to put a buff behind the bar - double Rift Fragments for all, and an 100% boost to our chance of finding Legendary items.

Once the knees-up began last Thursday, however, it became clear there was a problem - players much preferred this version of the game, with its unending stream of lovely new gear. And so Blizzard have decided to keep it that way; making Nick a very happy man if his Reaper of Souls review is anything to go by.

Diablo 3 celebrates its birthday with 100 percent bonuses to Legendary loot and Rift Fragment gains

It was Diablo III’s two year anniversary last week, and it’s come a long way since its troubled birth, which our Reaper of Souls review declared to have remedied. Gone is the awful Auction House, Loot 2.0 has revolutionised the never-ending hunt for gear and Reaper of Souls expanded the campaign and added the lovely, bulky Templar.

To celebrate, Blizzard’s rewarding Sanctuary defenders. But not for long. Log into Diablo III this week, and you’ll be able to gather a mountain of Legendary loot.

Diablo 3 patch 2.0.5 brings new class changes and a cure for Tyrael's hunger pains

Your chance to Did you know that tomorrow is the two year anniversary of Diablo III? You might have forgotten your card and flowers, but Blizzard haven’t forgotten theirs. Patch 2.0.5 brings forth numerous rebalances to every class - leaving very few skills and runes untouched - for the better. The game - which we gave a 9/10 in our Reaper of Souls review - will also be much more rewarding with a buff to bounties, rifts and the blood shard vendor Kadala.

But that’s not all because starting tomorrow there will be a community buff to commemorate Diablo III’s second birthday with increased xp and legendary find for all.find Legendary items is increased, including a guaranteed drop during your first hour of play.

Treasures unearthed: new Diablo 3 legendaries revealed

A Chinese Diablo III database site has managed to unearth a whole trove of legendary items that are currently not present in the game. Speculation says that these could be the ladder specific legendaries that will arrive in patch 2.1. That aside, I can actually verify myself that some of these legendaries were present within the Reaper of Souls closed beta. Some of them even accompanied me in my Reaper of Souls review.

You can take a peek at each and every one below the break.

Activision Blizzard's first quarter was dominated by Diablo, World of Warcraft and Hearthstone

Activision Blizzard hasn’t made as much money in the first quarter of 2014 as it did over the same period last year; which sounds strange considering how much we liked their addictive CCG in our Hearthstone review. But before you start feeling bad and sending them cheques, you should know that “not as much money" is still $1.11 billion.

The figure is higher than what Activision expected back in February, and has mainly been attributed to Blizzard’s output: Hearthstone, Diablo III: Reaper of Souls and World of Warcraft.

Blizzard surveys players about Diablo 3 expansion hunger

Blizzard’s been probing interest in another Diablo III expansion through a user survey currently being sent to players; looking at our Reaper of Souls review, the interest should be quite high.

NeoGAF user Nirolak was one such player and posted a screenshot of the question: “How interested would you be in playing a second expansion to Diablo III?" The survey covered a lot more than that, of course, such as gaming habits and satisfaction with Diablo.

A series of hotfixes were applied to Diablo III today, adjusting the “ overall reward structures within the game."

What does this actually mean? Simply put, in some instances you’ll be getting better rewards, and in others, less rewards. See how it compares to our intial thoughts in our Reaper of Souls review, and let the conflicting emotions commence!

Diablo III Patch 2.0.4 touches down and now the world will never be quite the same again

Blizzard have just launched the latest Diablo III patch and it's a big old betsy. Patch 2.0.4 is now live across all servers everywhere and introduces major changes to every class as well as to some of the game's town hubs. There's nothing any one of us can do to stop it, so we might as well embrace the change and carry on.

You can check out our thoughts on the latest expansion in our Reaper of Souls review.

Pull up a chair by the hearth: Battle.net desktop app now supports chat with friends

Hearthstone with Friends has been a slightly complicated process since launch - more often than not involving an external meet-up via Skype, followed by an exchanging of numerical game IDs from a main menu determined not to minimise under any circumstances.

That’s to change - and in WoW, and Diablo, and StarCraft - with the introduction of direct chat to the battle.net desktop app.

What you sow: Diablo III: Reaper of Souls sells 2.7 million copies in first week

Blizzard took a risk with Diablo III’s first ever expansion: they separated Loot 2.0 out into a free update, and let it stand by itself. Our Reaper of Souls review says that it worked: a new campaign, Crusader class and adventure mode proved enough meat to pull in current and relapsed players alike, to the tune of 1.5 million thwarted Malthaels - and 2.7 million copies in the first week.
