Watch a speedrunner blast through Doom 2016 in under an hour for AGDQ 2017

Doom Vulkan

Doom – and I don’t know if you already know this or not – is really fast. That’s kind of its thing – well, that, extreme gore, heavy metal, and fiery hellscapes.

When you play Doom, it’s going to feel like you’re going fast, is my point. Still, it won’t be anywhere near as fast as the AGDQ 2017 Doom speedrun, which saw the FPS completed in front of a live audience in just over 54 minutes.

It’s quite the spectacle. Not only does the run require some precision shooting, but you also need encyclopedic knowledge of the game’s levels, even out of bounds.

To make this time, you’ll need to know how and where to clip through doors. To clip through in Doom, you need to set up a zombie for a glory kill, triggering the melee animation at just the right time so it sends you backwards through a wall.

There’s even a bit of rocket jumping at one point, as well as a prolonged tightrope walk on the edges of the map. Watch the video below from 3:48 to see the run.
