Dota 2 bugs persist in Reborn Source 2 client

Valve

Dota 2 Reborn is still in a bit of a state after more than a week of being the only way to play Dota 2. Dents have been made in the laundry list of bugs with regular updates, but forums and Reddit are still packed with complaints about the Source 2 version of one of the biggest games in the world.

What caught my eye most of all is this post on Reddit pointing out that Sentry Wards, the invisible vision-granting timed items that are placed to observe parts of the map without risk to your hero, are currently not functioning properly. For high-level play, particularly public games that have generally poor communication between teammates, this is akin to trying to play on a trackpad. Worst of all, there doesn’t seem to be any consistency in the bug so it remains that worst of all things for competitive gaming – unpredictable.

There’s also this ranked game where a player has left during the pre-game hero-selection. Normally this means the game would not be counted for any of the players except the person who left, as a 4v5 is very rarely a winnable or interesting situation. Both of these bugs are pretty massive problems for those playing ranked games.

Missing features are drawing ire too. Some want the records of won and lost MMR (matchmaking rating, the official ELO-style number that defines how good the game thinks you are) back on the game record screen. Others are annoyed that after so much time and a total redesign, Dota 2 still gives less stat information than the Warcraft 3 mod did. There’s also been major complaints about the design of the main menu screen, which this imagesuccintly points out has information prorities totally out of wack with the userbase.

People are still playing games of course, so it’s not the end of the world, and regular patchesare improving things as fast as Valve can. I also enjoyed this tidbit from the new credits, thanking Blizzard for their work with Warcraft 3 and DOTA’s communities. There’s a variety of different tones it could be read in and all of them are amusing.

Hopefully Dota 2 manages to get back into a bugfree state before big invitational events like the Nanyang Championships and ESL One New York take place next month.
