The Elder Scrolls Online beta invites coming this month

Comments 1

Zenimax Online will be sending out invites this month for The Elder Scrolls Online's soon-to-launch closed beta. So there's only a short time left to apply if you're wanting to be considered for this first round of selectees.

Further details and an appropriate video below.

Zenimax announced that they'll be sending out the invites through the time-honoured tradition of an FAQ which comes chock full of useful information like "beta events will generally be held on the weekends" and "Don't eat salt"*.

The important things to know are that you can sign up for the beta here and Zenimax will be sending out invites to the first scheduled beta event on the 28 March. Rather than having an ongoing beta which is steadily updated till release, Zenimax have opted for regular beta events. So don't expect to be getting to any of the end game content before the game's eventual release.

Now, that appropriate video.

Cheers, VG247.

*One of these facts may not be a quote. That, however, does not stop it from being true.

Gonna be interesting to start hearing what people's opinions are for this game once it's "in the wild". I've no doubt there's a lot of meathead gamers exposed to the series purely from the Xbox 360, who think Elder Scrolls can only be one thing, and will be disappointed (and very vocal about it) to see ESO. There will be far less Elder Scrolls fans out there playing this who remember, say, the Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard. Or just how frickin' messy and impossibly difficult the old Arena games were. In short, there will be very few people who remember the Elder Scrolls was often experimental and tried to expand the scope of that universe with games in other genres - there will not be a ton of people understanding here, about the changes Zenimax has made to make a functional online game.

Or what do I know? Maybe only MMO players will sign up and they'll love how traditional it is? We'll see. That's the point :)

...

Man, Redguard. I miss the 90's. Even bad games were interesting, conceptually. Everything was, when no one knew the "rules" for building a proper 3D game. We'll never have an era of that much experimentation in mainstream, commercial titles ever again, will we?
