Elite: Dangerous will cost less than a spaceship, and the beta, at launch

Elite: Dangerous

Elite: Dangerous is a wee bit pricey at the moment, though certainly a lot less expensive than it was during alpha. But don’t fret! The launch version won’t leave you homeless and destitute.

Frontier Developments has announced the cost of the release version, and it’ll only set you back £39.99/$59.99. There’s a digital pre-order edition in the works, too. It’s a wee bit cheaper and comes with a few treats.

In the mean time, check out the short but flashy TV spot below.

The digital pre-order edition, otherwise known as the Elite Dangerous Mercenary Edition will cost £35/$50, and if you grab it before launch day, you’ll get these extra items:

  • An additional Eagle fighter ship docked in a secondary location in-game
  • Exclusive pack of ship paint jobs
  • A ‘day one’ ship decal
  • A digital players guide
  • A digital concept art book
  • Plus additional in-game benefits and other digital goodies to be announced over the coming weeks

Those who backed the game will get this edition as well.

If you have no self control, you might want to just dive in now. You can buy into the beta for £50. Our Steve reviewed the Elite: Dangerous beta, saying you should probably wait, but that it’s brilliant and maybe you don’t want to wait – and that’s okay too.
