Epic release the first episode of their virtual reality documentary series, Sense of Presence

It looks like Epic Games really want you to try VR. With more and more companies declaring their support for virtual reality gaming, I must say that I’m beginning to get really excited about the technology. I haven’t had the opportunity to try it yet, unfortunately, but as soon as I get one I’ll be taking it.

Though I’m excited about its application in games, I really like the sound of the tailored experiences, like Capcom’s Kitchen demo, or the video scene in this documentary that has you walking through a slow motion firefight with a giant mech.

The documentary’s first episode, subtitled ‘What is Virtual Reality’, contains interviews with Epic Games CTO Kim Libreri, Oculus founder Palmer Luckey, and other influential VR creators. Check it out below:

The next episode, called ‘Building Virtual Reality’, will talk through the creative process of experiences tailored to the technology.

It will be cool to get a bit of insight into what’s different about creating something specifically for VR, because outside of this space I can only really see driving and flight games creating a true sense of immersion – here there’s no disconnect between what you’re seeing and what your body is doing. This is probably the technology’s biggest hurdle.

How do you feel about VR? Have you tried it? Let us know in the comments.
