Fallen Enchantress – Legendary Heroes release date trumpeted for May 22

It’ll have taken nearly three years by the time Legendary Heroes graces Steam, but Stardock are beginning to emerge from beneath the shadow of 2010’s Elemental: War of Magic. The game that was supposed to rejuvenate the 4x genre was instead released in such dramatically buggy state that a dark cloud has followed its developers ever since. After a round of layoffs, Stardock wisely recruited mythic Civ modder Derek Paxton to reroute the series via Fallen Enchantress, and later dropped the ‘Elemental’ name entirely. And now here we are.

Legendary Heroes is available for pre-order as a standalone game for $39.99, or for $19.99 if you already own a copy of last year’s Fallen Enchantress. And in a sort of ongoing apology system Stardock have adopted since the long winter of 2010, if you bought Elemental before October 31 on the year of it’s release, this new iteration will be free.

Expansion, in this case, means larger maps, new monsters, champions and tactical battle scenarios, and a reworking of the role of champions. It’ll be DRM-less, and low-spec friendly, as the system requirements below will attest.

Minimum:

  • OS:Windows 8 / 7 SP1 / Vista SP2 / XP SP3
  • Processor:2.4 GHz Processor
  • Memory:1 GB RAM
  • Graphics:256 MB DirectX 9.0c Compliant Video Card w/Pixel Shader 2.0 (Radeon x1600 / GeForce 6800)
  • DirectX:9.0c
  • Hard Drive:5 GB HD space
  • Sound:DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card
  • Additional:To activate this game you must create a Stardock account while launching the game

So what do you think? Has this fallen developer paid penance enough to wrestle back your favour?
