Humble Bundle 8 bulked out with four more games; now with added space wolves

Humble Bundle 8 was already one of the best bundles so far released, coming with Proteus, Hotline Miami, and Thomas Was Alone. Now, though, it’s been filled out with four more games, including puzzler English Country Tune and batshit awesome action game Intrusion 2 (it has you ride a wolf while firing a laser cannon).

Humble Bundle 8 comes full of indie fun: Hotline Miami, Proteus, Capsized, Dear Esther, and more

The latest Humble Bundle hits all the right notes, it’s got your standard fanfare of indie developers, charity, and DRM-free goodness but the games are some of the best released in the past few years. There’s the hyperviolent Hotline Miami for the thrillseekers, the lyrically generated Proteus for the chillseekers, and Dear Esther for those who are a little down.

And that’s only the half of it.

Hotline Miami 2 is a thing

Comment
Hotline Miami 2 is a thingJonatan ‘Cactus’ Söderström told Eurogamer today that Dennaton Games had “barely begun working" on a new Hotline Miami. I've tried rephrasing the same news in a slightly more positive manner, though, and came up with this: there’s going to be a Hotline Miami 2.

The Weekly Playlist: the one where Jeremy chases his Obsidian fix and Tim finds a Windows 8 game that's "kind of good"It's Sunday, you've probably spent the day clearing up after a post-Halloween Halloween party (70% off all the decorations and spooky themed sweets as soon as the calender rolls over to November, smart move) and are now sitting at your desk, tea in hand, about to sink your brain into a game. If you're stuck for ideas this is what we've been playing this week.

The problem with Hotline Miami's dogs

Comment
The problem with Hotline Miami's dogsThey say there’s no such thing as bad videogame dogs, just bad videogame dog owners. A well-raised and properly cared for videogame dog, no matter the breed, would never act on its most primal subroutines. Instead it’s the videogame baddies who create the bad videogame dogs: those most vicious, toothy and spry enemies who will almost always jump on your chest and bark for half a second while a QTE icon flashes on-screen, right before you knife them in the head or snap their lovely canine necks. Dogs in games are as poorly represented as people in games. They’re more aggressive, more expendable, more dimly two-dimensional. It’s a problem, really. But today I want to talk about Hotline Miami’s dogs.

I love Hotline Miami. But there’s something wrong with Hotline Miami’s dogs.

The Weekly Playlist: fantasy and violence bring us together. And XCOM, still

The Weekly Playlist: fantasy and violence bring us together. And XCOM, stillWe gained an hour this weekend, giving us a scraping of extra time to throw at games/sleep/ever-threatening essay deadlines and with the only major release this week being Hotline Miami its given us a chance to spend our time on games other than XCOM and Dishonored. Well, except for Jeremy, he insists on filling our list with the populist games over and over. And would we be so petty as to hold that against him?

Hotline Miami has more to come, including extra levels, pad support and a patch

Hotline Miami has more to come, including extra levels, pad support and a patchResponding to a twitter query about extra levels or even a level editor, the Hotline Miami account today tweeted that "more will come." Some fans of the twitchy bludgeoning and blasting have already finished the game and are keen for more, more, more. More blood. More guns. More baseball bats. Just one more level. Just one more fragile little skull to cave in. Is that really so much to ask for? I can stop any time.

As That's a fortnight away, I suggest tuning your aural organs to some of the game's music. Don't worry, I've included them below the break so you won't need to go far.

Hotline Miami Preview

Comment
Hotline Miami PreviewHotline Miami is a top down, ultra-pixelated, ultra-violent, ultra-stylish brawler that requires precision and skill, and it is so much more than that description can ever approach. There’s an electric thrill that runs down my spine when I play Hotline Miami. All that oozing neon that pulses and flashes and slowly dissolves my brain in the acid bath of violence and throbbing synths that make up Catcus’ first foray into the commercial space.
