In a recent interview with The Mittani, SOE’s Matt Higby revealed that the developer is planning on expanding its new alerts system to generate objectives across all of a server’s continents. Currently, when an alert event kicks in, say capture as much of Amerish as you can, the server will begin to struggle as all its players try to get to Amerish and pitch in for the cause. This soon leads to server queues. The new alerts will be planetwide so you can help your faction from any of the continents.
Higby also went into weapon balances and how pro-gaming will feed back into the standard game.
The Planetside 2 community has been flailing around in panic these past couple of days as a huge injection of certs to compensate duplicate purchases flooded the game. With the introduction of account wide unlocks, many players who had played by the rules of character bound unlocks were given extra cert points. However it was made apparent that some characters were receiving astronomical amounts of certs without any explanation. This led leaderboards being torn apart, and minute old characters being able to unlock more weapons/upgrades than someone with months of playtime.
Chaos reigns in Planetside 2 as a “cert point grant” system that was designed to compensate players who bought weapons prior to the new account-wide unlocks has gone haywire, resulting in some players totalling over 160,000 cert points. This has played havoc with everything from new characters being able to buy every upgrade possible, to leaderboards collapsing under the weight of the sudden cert injection.
SOE are in the process of completely reworking the push and pull of battle in Planetside 2. How? Er, we’re not sure yet. Ask us tomorrow. For tonight, at 5pm PDT / midnight GMT, and for the rest of the week, they’ll be trialing the results so far on the Public Test Server.

If Valve have taught the games industry anything it's that hats sell like hot cakes, hot cakes dressed in spiffing attire, including, at a bare minimum, a fedora and cape. So it is that we see SOE reveal that the Terran Republic forces are soon to receive a Comissar's hat with which to deck out their players.

If you’ve been playing a Planetside 2 which features the shooting of men on a massive scale, well done - carry on. Details on incoming server merges after the break.
If you’ve been engaged in a Planetside 2 which plays like an arrhythmic Proteus - all peaceful sojourns through ambient woods - then I’m afraid I’ve some bad news. There’s going to be a pretty violent shake up early next week.
SOE have returned rather explosively to the office this week and are ready to talk Planetside 2 in 2013. They’ll soon pull back a thick, squint-proof curtain and present their plan for the next six months, but not yet - today they’re divulging only what they’re working on right now.
SOE took a modicum of time off for New Year. Big mistake. While the normally-vigilant Planetside developers’ backs were turned, cheats seized upon an exploit that saw players entering a certain radius instantly disconnected.
“As a Thank You to players for sticking it out through some launch week server instability we are doing double XP this weekend!,” exclaimed Planetside 2 creative director Matt Higby on Twitteryesterday.

Matt Higby, Creative Director at SOE, has revealed the membership benefits for Planetside 2, while heavily reminding players that it isn’t pay-to-win. The membership will include perks such as increased certification growth, experience and resource boosts and increased resource caps.
The Planetside 2 beta is very much underway, and SOE are starting to see results, says creative director Matt Higby: “We’re finding every day more and more stuff that needs to get fixed.” But there’ll be more, and players shouldn’t go in expecting one of those fancy, newfangled bug-free betas.
