Minecraft Snapshot 13w10a, the fourth in just two weeks, is now live. Like the previous snapshot, this is about bug fixing rather than about introducing new content, but with its issue the pre-release of Minecraft 1.5 inches ever closer. As Mojang said last week, they don't want to put the pre-release in our hands until they've crushed every last crash bug and it looks like this is keeping them very busy.
So, really, it's in your interest to grab this latest snapshot and play the hell out of it, just to make sure it's as bug free as possible, thereby helping Mojang move ever closer to giving us all the redstone toys we could ever want.

Those of you waiting for the pre-release of The Redstone Update, which Mojang had initially scheduled for January of this year, will just have to wait a little longer. Instead, Mojang have taken the unusual move of releasing a third snapshot for Minecraft in just one week, with the snappily-named Minecraft Snapshot 13w09c addressing even more bugs.
"The pre-release has been postponed until we don’t discover any new crash bugs and/or redstone bugs," said a post on the Mojang blog. Hopefully that won't be much longer, as the team are keeping a close eye on the Minecraft bug tracker and, with each of these new snapshots, are squashing scores more.

Tuesday's Minecraft snapshot, which was really little more than an update to let you ride things that ride other things, has been tidied up with a new release today. A bunch of bugs have been kicked out the door and Mojang say that they hope to pre-release the Minecraft Redstone Update tomorrow, ahead of a full release next week. Exciting stuff? Just a little.

One of the new features added in this snapshot is the fear that mobs feel around minecart tracks. That comes with a new scoreboard system, droppers and dispensers that can be rotated to face any direction and minecarts that can now carry mob spawners. That last one is going to be particularly good fun.
You can grab the new snapshot from Mojang's site here. As usual, let me remind you that we have a guide to trying out these pre-release snapshots, if you're not quite sure what it is you need to do. Now, click through for a more comprehensive list of the changes and bug fixes.Read and Comment

The new dropper block will come in useful alongside the hoppers, as it places items into chests when it receives redstone current. Speaking of hoppers, more than a dozen bug fixes mean that they should be working much better now and minecarts can now be constructed that have hoppers built in. There's definitely a few puns to be made here, but I am a man of restraint and I will not be baited.Read and Comment

The daylight detectors and comparitors that I mentioned only yesterday are already available for testing with the release of this latest Minecraft snapshot, which goes by the catchy name of 13w01a. It's a significant update, too, adding the new hopper block, a chest that gives off a redstone signal when it's opened, nether ore and nether bricks. You can find your copy waiting very patiently for you on their blog.
UPDATE: After some bugs surfaced, Mojang have now released an update to this snapshot. Don't worry about yesterday's release and instead be sure you get the newest one here.

That's right, a handful of bug fixes are in the snapshot update, which you can find here. The game has also been tweaked so that the possibility of monsters spawning with armor now scales according to the difficulty level you're playing at. Once again, don't forget to read our guide if you've never installed a Minecraft snapshot before.
Now, there's a wee seasonal spoiler in this post, so if you don't want to know what Minecraft might have in store for players over the holiday period, then I'd suggest you pass on by and take a look at all the fantastic features posted up by my colleagues. For example, did you know you can play Red Orchestra 2 this weekend?
Okay, are they gone? Very well then. Looks like we're the crowd who don't mind having Christmas spoiled. Follow me past the break.

It's here! Or it's practically here, more or less. Minecraft 1.4, also known as the Pretty Scary Update, now exists as a pre-release version on Mojang's blog. It adds lots of little big fixes and some big, big noises...Read and Comment
As well as introducing the witches that we mentioned the other day, the latest Minecraft snapshot features another suitably spooky mob.Read and Comment
With monsters now picking up and using items that they've found laying around, we're now getting situations like this one, spotted by a reddit user. Sure, you can laugh, but this means the monsters are able to make themselves not only tougher, but also immune to the effects of sunlight. They're getting smart. Too smart.Read and Comment

While it doesn't have a very catchy name, Minecraft snapshot 12w36a features quite a few interesting additions. Take this fellow, for example. The Wither skeleton has a sword, instead of the usual bow, and he's so excited to show you his new toy. Should his weapon make contact, your health bar will turn black and your life will drain away like so much bath water down a plughole. Lovely stuff.
