Mirror's Edge and Dear Esther artist joins Valve to "be around people"

Rob Briscoe is one of two freelancers who’ve found a polite sort of fame after their work on Mirror’s Edge. While Rhianna Pratchett went on to scribe Tomb Raider (and in smaller font, Thief), Briscoe went on to splash Dear Esther with a liberal varnish of art and design.

The success of Dear Esther has allowed him to continue on in indiedom indefinitely - but an “increasing feeling of isolation" while working on a Unity port for the game has led him to seek a job in which he can be “in the presence of people". Genius people, at Valve.

Dying Light producer dismisses "lazy" link to linear Mirror’s Edge

The decision to turn Mirror’s Edge 2 open-world seems logical enough; the free-running dream made real. It’s the urban equivalent of Skyrim’s distant-mountaintop promise: If you can see a rooftop, you can hop, slip and slide your way there.

But Mirror’s Edge was never really about choice. Sure, its greatest pleasures were to be found sourcing new routes in its Time Trial mode - but were those really choices, or optimisations?

Tymon Smektala would probably suggest the latter. He’s working at Techland on the Dead Island developers’ free-roaming zombie jumparoo, Dying Light, and is a little tired of the comparisons to DICE’s flawed opus.

Mirror’s Edge brought to life in parkour short

We’re all big fans of Mirror’s Edge at PCGamesN, but none of us are big enough fans to risk our bones in order to create a live-action tribute to the game and its upcoming sequel/reboot. There is one man who is such a fan though: Neil Cointe. Check out his awesome POV short film where he brings Mirror’s Edge to Cambridge.

DICE takes the blame for holding back Mirror's Edge 2

DICE takes the blame for holding back Mirror's Edge 2

When Mirror's Edge 2 looked like a pipe dream, EA took the brunt of the blame. It seemed to be another case of the gargantuan publisher not having enough faith in an IP that had gained quite a bit of popularity, placing it once again in the role of the nasty villain.

Talking with VideoGamer.com, DICE's Patrick Bach confessed that it was the developer, and not EA, that held back the sequel, citing the lack of a strong pitch as the primary reason. It looks like EA's off the hook, then.

Mirror’s Edge 2 is in the "early stages of development", will provide an "origin story" for Faith

So this morning, Mirror’s Edge 2 is suddenly a game some people at DICE are actually making. I’d started to think it was just a sound we made with our mouths to muffle our wailing, parkour-starved souls.

If you stuck around for EA’s conference last night, you’ll remember that the new game’s tremendous teaser trailer ended with the legend: “Coming... when it's ready". And it seems DICE really do mean that. Don’t expect Mirror’s Edge in the Spring.

Mirror's Edge 2 finally a thing

After much begging from fans, Mirror's Edge 2 has finally been confirmed by EA in their final announcement of the day. Faith is back in the clinical clean dystopia from the first game, and it looks just as much as a rush as it ever was.

Mirror’s Edge mod adds Oculus Rift support

Internet, bear with me. For a while from now, as each new game that gets support for the Oculus Rift, I, and other writers, will get needlessly excited and post videos of said game in action. This will settle down in time and normal activity will resume. Until then: virtual reality Mirror’s Edge.

Report: Mirror's Edge 2 among DICE's non-Battlefield projects, former EA manager claims

Report: Mirror's Edge 2 among DICE's non-Battlefield projects, former EA manager claimsThat claim comes courtesy of Ben Cousins, manager of ngmoco Sweden and former general manager of EA's Easy Studio. "It is general knowledge in the Stockholm dev scene that Mirror's Edge 2 is in production at DICE," he tweeted earlier today, though he's provided no further details. It's worth noting that Cousins has previously been cautioned by EA after the publisher was concerned that he might disclose "trade secrets and confidential information." Kotaku has a copy of the correspondence, which dates back to July 2011.
