You can now experience the arcade classic Donkey Kong, including its introductory cut scene, by playing this novel Minecraft map and climbing your way towards Pauline, the damsel in distress. To play it you'll need the latest Minecraft snapshot, version 13w06a, and you may notice a few minor deviations between the original game and this re-imagining.
You're no longer avoiding falling barrels, for example. Instead, they're now pigs in minecarts.

If
you ever wanted your face on a flag, a flag that you can plunge into
the soil of an alien world, then look no further than Galacticraft. This
Minecraft mod gives you the chance to indulge in your own, home-grown
space program, building bespoke rockets in your backyard and exploring
the great beyond.
Waiting
for you out in space are other planets with their own terrain
generation routines, with their own resources and even with their own
gravity. Galacticraft is an ambitious mod that’s still at a very early
stage, but it’s worth playing.Read and Comment
This is the work of a group of Minecraft fans called the Farlanders and it's one of the most inventive maps I've in quite some time. Making use of the new hoppers, storage minecarts and comparators that have been included in the latest snapshots, the basketball automatically assigns team members, tracks the score for you and even launches appropriately-coloured victory fireworks.
The machinery that takes care of this is hidden well out of the way of the players and ticks away beside or underneath the court, so all you need do is play. The whole thing even resets itself when the match is won. It's a marvel of Minecraft design and engineering and is practically a total conversion, a basketball minigame. Adventure maps are self-contained Minecraft experiences that are generally a lot less about the building and a lot more about exploring and, very often, fighting. They're frequently full of traps, puzzles and all sorts of secrets and while you can play many of them quite happily by yourself, there's more than a few out there that have been designed for more than one player. Best of all, because the Minecraft community is so industrious, there are thousands of them out there and many of them are very, very good.
Plucked from those thousands, here are ten adventure maps that you absolutely must try. Bear in mind that almost all of them will have particular rules or settings that you'll need to follow to ensure they work properly, such as setting the game to a particular difficulty level or being sure not to break any blocks when you start playing. Each map has its own rules, but don't worry, for each map that you try, the creators will let you know what you should and shouldn't do before you begin.

?Our Spotlight units plug content our journalists have made, that our advertisers want to promote. Sometimes the promotion is paid for, but the content they go to is always independent with no client oversight or approval.
Wherever you are this holiday season, and whatever the weather might be, you can always celebrate a traditional Christmas inside Minecraft. While the vanilla version of the game already offers you the chance to enjoy snowy forests of pine trees and snug log cabins well-stocked with cake, you can get seriously festive with these two mods. Prepare to turn the dial all the way up to Christmas.

You may remember Mojang saying that they're working on a friends list feature for Minecraft, something that would let you keep track of and contact other players. Well, it looks like Friends for Minecraft has beaten them to it. This free "social plugin" allows players to see who's online and where, send messages to one another and share screenshots. It's completely free and there are clients for both the PC and iOS devices. Not bad, eh?Read and Comment

This may be a work of genius. The Universal Mob Grinder is a factory of death, an automated abattoir. This complex structure allows you to battery farm monsters for both experience and items. It can spawn, sort and slaughter them for you, or allow you to land the final blow and collect experience points for the kill, all with the minimum of effort.

There are so many Minecraft mods out there that players are spoiled for choice. We can’t go a week without posting about a mod, new or old, updated or back in fashion, that we think you should try. For many of us, there’s plenty of variety in this game already, but if you’re one of those players who still hungers for more, then the Technic mod, and it’s multiplayer counterpart Tekkit, should be more than you will ever, ever need. Us PC gamers are enormously lucky people. Our world is full of countless free mods and tools developed by people the world over who, very often, simply do these things for fun. Nowhere is this more evident than in the Minecraft community, where hundreds of people are constantly developing applications, creating mods and working out the finer points of their texture packs, all of which they'll share with us for nothing. Take Unmined, for example, which is an excellent mapping tool.Read and Comment

Boom boom boom, let me hear you say "Looks like that one went right through!" While I'll admit that's not such a catchy tune, I'm all for making World of Tanks a bit louder and and a bit meaner. Maybe you're like I used to be, maybe you think World of Tanks' sound effects are just fine as they are. I think that, once you install this mod, you'll really appreciate the difference it makes.

Dark Souls is a truly great game, but it’s also a shabby one. From Software, bless their hearts, gave us the PC port we were clamouring for even though (as they themselves admitted) they didn’t really know how to make one.
The final result was technically underwhelming, with low resolutions and poor framerates holding back an otherwise stunning game. Thankfully, this is PC gaming, which means when we don’t like something, we fix it ourselves.
Check inside for a collection of mods that will help turn Dark Souls into a port worthy of the PC.Read and Comment
