True Detective’s intro sequence recreated in GTA 5 is brilliant

The first series of True Detective was great wasn’t it? Out of the whole series, three things really stick with me. The first is that scene: you know, the one that was filmed in one glorious, sweeping shot.

The second is Matthew McConaughey and his forever quotable nihilist Rust Cohle. This is him on our planet: “It’s all one ghetto, man. A giant gutter in outer space.” Brilliant. Get him over for drinks.

The third most memorable thing, though, is its incredible title sequence. It just sets the perfect tone – a snapshot of USA’s Deep South, coupled with flashes of disturbing imagery and perfectly married to The Handsome Family’s haunting country track.

Do you know what else is good? Grand Theft Auto 5.

Someone far too talented for their own good has only gone and paired the two, recreating True Detective’s iconic intro sequence. YouTube userllachlann recreated it by shooting everything (no, not like that) in GTA 5 and using After Effects for the rest. Have a look for yourself:
