Her Story is True Detective for games, launches June 24th

Her Story

We’re living in an age now where video games are a diverse and experimental medium. Her Story is an interesting take on games; an interactive crime documentary, based on real events. Using video tape interviews, you’ll need to piece together what evidence you can find to come to the conclusion on a missing persons case.

Created by Sam Barlow, the writer and lead designer of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and Aisle, the video clips are acted out by actress Viva Seifert, and create seven interviews from 1994, in which police discuss the woman’s missing husband.

Using the clips and police database, players need to discover what actually happened.

“Her Story is unlike anything you’ve played before. I’ve worked hard to tell a personal story that is both moving and truthful and I’ve told it using something you rarely see: a game that asks you to listen,” said Barlow.

“My passion is to do for games what True Detective did for the cop show and what Serial did for the true crime podcast. Both those shows expanded what is expected of the crime genre whilst entertaining a broad audience. Likewise, Her Story is scratching a deeper itch than most games that explore police work… but at the same time anyone can pick it up and play.”

Her Story will be available on Steam and the Humble Store on June 24th.
