Get clued up on the history of Warcraft while you wait for Warlords of Draenor

For almost 20 years, Blizzard has been constructing the universe of Warcraft, from the birth of the Titans to the wars between the Horde and the Alliance. There’s a lot to take in, with each game, expansion, comic and novel expanding and fleshing out the gargantuan story.

If you’re not sure who the gods are or why Ner’zhul had a portal fetish, then worry no more. YouTuber Nobbel87 has taken on the massive task of gathering the lore of Warcraft and turning it into a digestible 40 minute video. So you can get an overview of the entire history of Blizzard’s universe in the length of time it takes a lecturer to teach you about one Ancient Greek vase.

IO Interactive are working on a proper Hitman game: “We’ve adopted an open, non-linear level design approach to the game”

Hitman’s going travelling again. “In the next game you will experience a globetrotting Agent 47 at the prime of his career – the apex predator stalking his prey across the world, with the support of his long-term handler Diana Burnwood and the whole of the ICA," at least, that’s what IO Interactive are saying in their open letter to the community.

That’s not all.

“We’ve adopted an open, non-linear level design approach to the game, ensuring the game will play out across huge, checkpoint-free, sandbox levels."

Oh, and there’s more excellent news, too.

Hauntman Absolution: Agent 47 gets a new contract in a spooky haunted house

Hauntman Absolution: Agent 47 gets a new contract in a spooky haunted house

Hitman: Absolution might have been the most disappointing of all of Agent 47's murderous adventures, with a plodding story and a distressing amount of linearity for a series known for its love of experimentation, but there were a few missions that felt like someone involved still remembered what Hitman was all about. The early King of Chinatown hit was a lovely, open mission that encouraged exploration and trial and error, while another gave Agent 47 the run of a significant portion of a town to play in, filled with potential.

The Contract mode fixed some of the game's issues by allowing players to mark their own targets and mix it up a bit, choosing how they murder them and how they escape, and it looks like a brand new contract has been added to the list, which is a nice surprise. There are actually three new contracts, one for each platform, and us PC folk get to explore a spooky haunted house, which seems like the perfect location for a murder.

IO Interactive lays off nearly half of their staff; cancels projects

IO Interactive have announced that they’ve laid off nearly half of their current workforce in a restructuring effort to refocus on the Hitman series. This new focus has meant that all other projects have been canceled effective immediately. Hannes Siefert, previously the production director, will take over as the new studio head as part of the restructuring.

Tomb Raider sold 3.4 million copies: “Despite the high critical acclaim, failed to meet each target”

It’s not been a great day for Square Enix stockholders, doubly so if they live in the ridiculously cold north of England. First they learn that the company will be making an “extraordinary loss" this financial year as a result of a costly internal restructuring, they then learn that the company’s president of 13 years, Yoichi Wada will be stepping down (though, they may not be entirely torn up about that considering his role in the first piece of bad news), and now, on top of all that came before, they’ve learned that Tomb Raider grossly missed Square Enix’s sales expectations.

Hitman: HD Trilogy launch trailer reminds us we can now play all the good Hitman games in HD

Hitman: Absolution was not an entirely excellent game. Missing something of what made its forebears so different and unique. If, while playing Absolution, that loss was intangible, just on the periphery of your gamer's perception, then you may want to return to the original games.

Unfortunately, time isn't kind to games. Their harsh edges become more obvious, their textures seem muddier. Happily, then, IO Interactive and Square Enix have seen fit to re-release the original three games in an updated HD pack stuffed with extras.

Learn just which extras in the trailer below.

Hitman Absolution Facebook app pulled after just a few hours online: allowed you order hits on friends for their “small tits”

Square Enix pulled a controversial Facebook app for Hitman Absolution within hours of it going live after it was pointed out to them that it was a barely veiled tool for cyber bullying.

You could use the app to send a private video to a Facebook friend showing Agent 47 killing them - using their profile picture and imposing it over a video template. Along with the video, you would select a reason for sending the hit and pick a physical attribute of your friend that 47 could use to identify them: one example would be having your friend killed because they were cheating on their partner and could be identified by their “small tits".

Square Enix swiftly issued an apology and pulled the app from their site and Facebook.

More on this below.
