Hitman’s beta will be a prequel and show Agent 47 first meeting Diana Burnwood

Some more information for the Hitman beta has come out of last night’s PlayStation Experience, including details on the story and the date we can download it.

If you like approaching things on your own terms, our list of the best PC sandbox games might be just what you need.

The beta mission will be a prequel set 20 years in the past, and Agent 47 is still bald. The beta will look back on when Diana Burnwood suggested Agent 47 as a murderous candidate for The Agency, despite another recruiter warning Burnwood that Agent 47 could be dangerous.

You’d think being dangerous would be a prerequisite for getting a job where you murder people for money, so Diana is clearly the voice of reason in the new teaser. Set your sights on that below:

“The Hitman beta is set twenty years in the past at a top-secret ICA recruitment and training facility,” says the blurb. “This extremely unique mission revolves around how Agent 47 was recruited into the ICA and shows the first time that 47 meets his long-time handler, Diana Burnwood.”

It seems to suggest that this beta won’t be a part of the main game, instead giving us a standalone taste of Agent 47’s latest outing. It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve had something like this for Hitman, with Absolution accompanied by the standalone Sniper Challenge.

The beta being its own thing would certainly fit the episodic ethos of the game, after all.

We’ll be able to find out for sure on February 19 when the beta launches on PC.
