As a series that has always lived in the stars, Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak seems to be quite the departure, putting you in control of ground and air forces spread across a dusty planet.

If you’re here you must like strategy, so why not check out our list of the best strategy games on PC.

Heading to Steam on January 20,Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak acts as a prequel to Homeworld, and is being developed byBlackbird Interactive – a studio founded by veterans of Homeworld and Company of Heroes.

You’ll be controlling ground and air fleets across massive battles, managing resources and researching technology across a story-based campaign. There will also apparently be a robust online mode which includes ranked play.

If the thought of controlling an army of vehicles across desert dunes and through winding canyons makes you all hot and bothered, you can pre-order on Steam.

Pre-orders will be treated toa free copy of Homeworld Remastered Collection, but don’t worry if you already own that because you’ll get a lovely 20% off your Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak pre-order instead.
