Play Hyper Light Drifter at a blistering 60fps in meaty new patch

Hyperlight Drifter 60fps

It was considered a pipe dream a few months ago, but the developers of Hyper Light Drifter have worked through hundreds of lines of code to make the game work at 60fps, giving the already fast-paced dungeon crawler a slick, smooth upgrade.

For all that’s pixel perfect, head over to our list of the best indie games.

“This conversion was indeed a massive task to undertake: we worked through over 115 thousand lines of code the past several months in order to make this happen, manually changing timings of each object and enemy, fixing the dozens upon dozens of little problems that arose when changing frame timing, optimising the game and testing the bits out of it internally,” said the developers in a post to Steam.

Thought they’re happy with the results, the new patch is currently in Steam’s beta branch, just while they iron out the last few bugs. If you want to try it anyway, simply opt in on the Steam dropdown and then flip the 30fps/60fps toggle in the options menu. If you have any problems, flip it back or opt out of the beta branch.

In addition to the frame rate bump, the patch also adds Boss Rush + Newcomer modes, the former letting you tackle the game’s bosses in order and the latter easing in players with a less intense mode that houses a limited set of achievements.

Hyper Light Drifter is currently 33% off to celebrate the patch.
