Shadowrun Returns concept art depicts the painted look sought for the final game

We’ve yet to see anything concrete of the game being made over at Harebrained Studios, but the latest concept art has been painted up to give you an idea of what to expect. As the studio are using an isometric viewpoint, all the environments are going to be painted in the manner of the picture above. The characters and particle effects are going to be 3D, so that’s going to be the major departure from what we’re seeing, but that “allows them the fluid movement and wide range of character design and equipment options you’d expect from an RPG. We’ve done a number of tests and the 2D/3D mix feels very natural.” Or, so says them what developed it.

Below I’ve collected together more of the concept art released so far because it really is extremely good.

Here we have what I call, ‘Lady with legs’:



This next piece, ‘Big man, smaller man, smallest’really captures the state of post-post modernism in the 2050s:



‘Not coming here looking like that’ addresses the plight of people in costume trying to buy gum on the way back from a pub crawl:
