Job Simulator is SteamVR’s first game, and it’s a simulation inside a simulation

Job Simulator

Exploring alien worlds, piloting spaceships, fighting in titanic, fantastical battles – VR promises to trick our brains into thinking we’re doing things we’ll never actually do. But the first the first SteamVR game to be announced, Job Simulator, is starting off with something more familiar.

Set in a Mega City-like future where all the mundane jobs are performed by robots, Job Simulator is a simulator inside a simulator, where our descendants can explore how their ancestors used to earn a buck.

“Ever since the Oculus Rift Kickstarter, we’ve been fervent believers in the potential of VR and ecstatic about the forthcoming widespread consumer adoption of such a transformative new medium,” said developer Owlchemy Labs. “When the first Oculus development kit was released, we saw the potential and knew it would play a very important part in the future of Owlchemy Labs.”

The studio has already developed VR games for the Oculus Rift, and while Job Simulator is showcasing the capabilities of SteamVR and the Vive at GDC, it should also be compatible with the Oculus Rift down the line.
