Release trailer for Kingdom: New Lands shows off adorable mounts and a defecating unicorn

Kingdom new lands

The follow-up to last year’s gorgeous sidescrolling strategy game, Kingdom, is nearly with us, and as such developers Noio and Licorice are treating us to a moody release trailer to whet our appetites for the game’s August 9 release date.

Shy on new feature announcements, the release trailer instead opts to showcase all the cute forest critters you’ll be able to use as mounts, as well as some of the foes and dangers you’ll have to ward off as you attempt to establish your monarchy. You can watch it below – though do wait until the very last scene, or you’ll miss a beautiful pixel-art unicorn excreting a pile of gold.

Much like its predecessor, Kingdom: New Lands works in much the same way as Minecraft, with players needing to gather resources and build defences in order to ward off the onslaught of creatures that come out when the sun goes down. Exactly where Kingdom: New Lands is building upon the first game is hard to tell, but new mounts like the stag and bear are a good indicator of the type of expansion it is – a bite-y, scratchy and antler-stabby one.
