League of Legends game suspended to help player grieve

Comment

When a League of Legends player received word that one of his closest friends had died in a car accident, his fellow players immediately suspended the match to help console him and talk him through the sudden loss.

The full story is up at Reddit, where user Estarion4-4 thanks the summoners who helped him get through his grief. Riot eSports coordinator J.T. Vandenbree also shows up in the thread and promises to make sure those players receive some Riot Points as a thank-you for being such outstanding community members.

The LoL community sometimes takes a beating for being hostile and insensitive, and anyone who plays has had their share of games ruined by trolls. But it’s nice to see that so many members of that community will rally around one of their own at a time of tragedy, and that Riot honors their compassion.
