Left 4 Dead 2's free weekend rewards survivors who help each other

A company icebreaking session Valve-style

And who said being in the midst of a zombie apocalypse means you can't make friends? Valve must no one of the nay-sayers because their upcoming free weekend for Left 4 Dead 2 encourages all sorts of helpful handholding and icebreaking conversations, and all with the help of achievements.

According to Valve's blog post "For long time players, it is time to welcome your new found friends and help them survive the zombie apocalypse. For current players, we created a new achievement. Good Guy Nick - – 'Plays games with free weekend players and helps them survive a campaign.'"

Of course, the only way to know if you're playing with someone taking part in the free weekend is to get chatting (Read: spam chat with "Are you new? Are you new? Are you new" followed by sexually questionable remarks and rage quitting).

The free event is of course to celebrate Halloween. That time of year that turns game developers a little bit crazy.

This is how I celebrate:

Except, I don't have children. I have flatmates. They cry just as much.
