Limited Steam for Linux beta to start in October

Comment

Valve will launch an external beta for Steam on Linux - as well as for one existing Valve game - for 1,000 users “sometime in October”.

The beta will include support for Ubuntu 12.04 and above, with applications submittable via a sign-up page, to be made live at a later date. What it definitely will not include is Big Picture mode, say Valve.

We’ve no confirmation on which game is to be included in the beta as yet, but this previous Steam Workshop announcement suggests that Linux support for Left 4 Dead 2 will be “starting in the middle of next month and rolling out from there”.

Which makes L4D2 a safe bet. Who’s planning on signing up?
