Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is vastly improved by an adorable canine mascot

Metal Gear Solid V

Metal Gear Solid is rarely adorable. Confusing and a bit depressing, sure, but it doesn’t delve into the realm of cuteness. That is, until now. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which was recently announced for PC, is undoubtedly the most cuddly, strokable Metal Gear game. And it’s all thanks to DD, a pup that Snake rescues after finding its dead mother.

DD is clearly the real star of The Phantom Pain.

And here is the cutscene with subtitles.

Ain’t he just lovely. And he gets an eyepatch just like Snake! Some dogs really do start to look like their owners.

But how did he get the eyepatch? Is it just an accessory, like how some bizarre folk wear glasses despite having 20/20 vision? Or did Ocelot, in a moment of anger, gouge it out? Whatever the reason, it does make him look just as bad ass as his owner.

I think we can all agree that DD’s reveal is infinitely better than the announcement that the Metal Gear Collection was just a bloody clothing line.

Cheers, Eurogamer.
