Microsoft rumoured to announce $2.5 billion purchase of Mojang on Monday

Microsoft Mojang Purchase

More reports of the rumoured Mojang purchase by Microsoft have surfaced, revealing that the deal could be announced as soon as this coming Monday. The price has risen to $2.5 billion dollars according to the source briefed on the deal. The article from Reuters also claims that Microsoft’s primary goal in the purchase is to further expand their mobile platform.

We first heard about the acquisition a few days ago, where there were already hints that the deal could be announced “as early as next week”. The source from Reuters seems to suggest the same, where it’s said that “Microsoft will unveil a $2.5 billion deal to buy its owner on Monday”.

The $2.5 billion dollar deal will see Microsoft exploit Minecrafts mobile dominance according to Wall Street. “We don’t view this acquisition as a signal of Microsoft’s intent to double down on Xbox but consider it an attempt to better address mobile on a cross-platform basis,” said Nomura analyst Rick Sherlund. “This also appears to be consistent with (Microsoft) CEO Satya Nadella’s mobile and cloud strategy.”

What would happen with the PC version is still a mystery; it may be that it sees little to no influence at all if the deal comes to fruition.

But if it’s true, Microsoft, just don’t fuck it up.
