Build a base among the stars by removing height restrictions in No Man’s Sky

No Man's Sky base building

With the Foundation update, it’s now possible to build your own bases in No Man’s Sky, but there are limitations. Fortunately, those limitations are pretty easy to remove on PC. Here’s how.

Go into No Man’s Sky’s local files from Steam, find ‘TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML’ in the Binaries > SETTINGS folder, and change the property “RemoveBaseBuildingRestrictions” to “true”. A person on Imgur has this helpful, step-by-step tutorial for anyone interested.

As always with this sort of thing, be advised that editing the base files of a game can make it not work as intended (though that’s the point), make it not work at all, cause your teeth to fall out or a distant acquaintance to suffer a mauling in a freak yachting accident. Do this at your own risk, PCGamesN accepts no liability, blah blah blah.

Anyway, having advised you not to do so, look at all the cool stuff you can do with the base building restrictions removed! Here’s a gif of a player searching in vain for a hard height limit, inspiring a discussion about whether it’d be possible to build a bridge between two planets. Here’s an Imgur post from someone who built a ‘space station’ atop a ladder.
