Nvidia nab the “greatest PC games of all time” for the Shield: Half-Life 2 and Portal

Half-Life 2

Handheld PCs are going to happen, everyone. Whether they’ll be connected by vapour trails to our Steam Machines or to GPUs installed in our eye sockets remains to be seen, but Nvidia are still the only manufacturers with convincing tech already on the market.

The Nvidia Shield is also now the only handheld console with Valve games on it.

Nvidia have a Technical Marketing Lab. While ordinarily they’d be assembling steam-powered door-to-door salesmen in there, today they’re showing off two ace Valve games playing on their handheld PC.

“Nvidia has done a remarkable job bringing both Half-Life 2 and Portal to Shield,” said Valve marketing man Doug Lombardi, whose genetic links to Nvidia’s sales lab specimens remain unconfirmed.

“We’re playing both games here on our Shields and fans of both franchises can expect the same gameplay they’ve come to love on the PC.”

Both games are $9.99 on the Shield’s Google Play store, while the Shield itself is currently $199 – and now capable of streaming games to your TV via Gamestream. Tempted?

Cheers, MCV.
