We’ve seen games bundled with graphics cards for ages now. Nvidia are trying something new, they’re bundling a couple of their cards with in-game currency and items for certain free-to-play MMOs.
You can get £17 worth of content for Warframe, Neverwinter, and Marvel Heroes by picking up a 650 series graphics card.
According to the offer page posted by Nvidia, buying a 650 series card from participating retailers will get you 465 platinum in Warframe, 1,000,000 astral diamonds in Neverwinter, and 2,600 gold in Marvel Heroes. Each worth about £17 in real money.
It’s a novel move on Nvidia’s part. Bundling cards with new games can be a great way of enticing a buy. Sometimes the bundles can make the cost of the card seem pretty inconsequential. Overclockers were offering ATI cards with Far Cry 3, Sleeping Dogs, and Nexuiz at one point, making the cost of the card itself only about £60. While the value may be the same, I wonder if tying the card to free-to-play games will appear to be of less value.
