Psychonauts 2 hits funding goal with time to spare

Double-fine

After racking up $1 million less than a day after launching its Fig crowdfunding campaign last month, the much-anticipated, long-awaited Psychonauts 2 has reached its $3.3 million goal.

I’ve got a feeling Psychonauts 2 might creep into our best upcoming PC games in the not too distant future

At the time of writing, 20,356 folk had chipped in to make the sequel to 2005’s zany platformer a reality. Broken Age, Double Fine’s first crowdfunding venture, asked for a similar amount of cash in 2012 but attracted more than four times the amount of backers but it’s worth remembering that Psychonauts 2 is a much more ambitious investment. Either way, it’s been deemed worthy of funding and will now become a reality.

“Holy Smokes! We did it you guys!” reads the latest update on the Psychonauts 2 funding campaign page. “Psychonauts 2 is now fully funded! We want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for making this possible. We’ve wanted to make this game for a long time, and now we finally can! So thank you, thank you, thank you!”

The campaign still has five days to go on the clock, but expect further “mission updates” thereafter to explain exactly what’ll come next. Here’s the celebratory video Tim Schafer et al shared after reaching their goal:
