Rise of the Tomb Raider’s Gamescom demo puts Lara through the wringer

Rise of the Tomb Raider Gamescom demo

Rise of the Tomb Raider’s Gamescom demo has made its way onto YouTube, so even if you didn’t make it to Cologne last week, you’ll still be able to say “Yes, I saw Lara Croft raiding tombs and falling down more often than the last person on a pub crawl.” Take a gander below.

It’s all gorgeous and all very familiar – exploration from the Uncharted school, chock-full of close calls, leaps of faith, crumbling bridges and exceptionally striking set pieces. I do miss the more thoughtful exploration of the older Tomb Raiders, but gosh the new ones are rather thrilling.

When not jumping and climbing, this modern Lara continues to be a more violent Lara. There are lots of people, presumably bad people, who are just waiting for a well-spoken English adventurer to stab them, it seems. Lara’s more murderous side was shown off at Gamescom as well.

Oh well! It can’t all be tombs and raiding. Well, it could, but it’s obviously not going to be.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is coming to PC in 2016.
