Sign up for Valve’s HTC Vive VR developer kit is now live

HTC Vive SteamVR sign up

Valve have opened up the registration form for game developers to sign up for the HTC Vive VR headset. The Developer Edition is, like the current Oculus Rift model, an in-progress design for use by developer teams planning to create VR games. If that description sounds a bit like you, you’d best start signing up.

Valve’s plan is to support as many VR creators as possible, and the best way to do that is get as many Vive headsets into as many hands as they can. It’s probably the reason behind the company giving away the Developer Edition for free; remove any barriers to entry and more developer teams will step forward.

If you’re interested in developing in VR, you can sign up for a Vive Developer Edition here. Submissions will go through a selection process that will stretch from spring to summer, and new kits will be sent out every two weeks.

In addition to the kits being made available, the SteamVR Developer Community pages are now available. They’re publicly visible so everyone can see what’s going on there, but posting is solely for those who receive a Developer Edition Vive.

For a more open discussion, the SteamVR discussion group allows every Steam user to chat virtual reality.

Thanks, SteamDB.
