Star Wars Battlefront won’t support in-game voice chat

With Star Wars Battlefront being a team-based game, I’m sure many people expected there to be some sort of in-game voice chat. Well, there isn’t. Sorry about that.

This information comes from the game’s official Twitter account in response to a fan query.

While it might seem like a big deal, there are plenty of ways to communicate with your friends while playing videogames on PC. Plus, this way the game’s incredible sound design won’t be torpedoed by some kid squealing at their mum for some Doritos.

I imagine the reason there isn’t any in-game voice chat is similar to that made up situation with the annoying kid. Star Wars is popular with the youngsters, and Battlefront isn’t exactly violent – troops throw themselves over into a bloodless death and the hero characters take a knee when they take too much damage.

I’m sure plenty of parents would feel absolutely comfortable letting their children play it, so long as their innocent ears can’t be subjected to Dave shouting “Bollocks!” every few seconds. It’s a way of opening the game up to a bigger audience and I just can’t get mad about that. Sorry.

Star Wars Battlefront releases on November 17.

Would you let your child play Battlefront? Are you angry? What are your plans for the rest of the week now the Battlefront beta is over? Let us know in the comments.
