State of Decay was a little bit like a zombie survival MMO, but instead of other players, you worked with really inept NPCs who you could sometimes play if they hadn't already gotten themselves killed by running through a horde of zombies screaming "I'm delicious! I'm delicious!".
Undead Labs had clear MMO ambitions, and with the acquisition of Patrick Wyatt, co-founder of ArenaNet and En Masse, it looks like they are gearing up to that big undead MMO they've always dreamed of.
It's pretty obvious what's going on, but Undead Labs are playing their cards close to their chest, although in the least subtle way possible. "Today, I’m very happy to announce that Patrick has joined Undead Labs, and will be working shoulder-to-shoulder with Team Zed as we dive into the development of… well, what’s next, and beyond," said Undead Labs co-founder Jeff Strain in a blog post.
In his own post, Wyatt can't confirm what he's working on, but totally does anyway. "I can’t talk anything about what I’m working on here at Undead Labs … yet. … But … I specialize in developing really big multiplayer games. So I guess maybe I’ll be working on something like that, at least as soon as I get one of the cool lab coats everyone around here has."
I guess he will be too.
