Cyanide Studios unveil Styx’s Rebirth power in this new trailer for Styx: Shards of Darkness

Styx Shards of Darkness

After spending a couple of months brooding in the shadows, Cyanide Studios have released a new gameplay trailer for their stealth action sequel, Styx: Shards of Darkness. This trailer shows off the titular goblin’s new skill set, along with the new locales you’ll sneak through in this adventure.

Cloning yourself to distract guards was a major mechanic in Styx: Master of Shadows, so the sequel dials it up with the new Cocoon item and Rebirth power. The Cocoon allows Styx to spawn his clone at a distance, creating a long range distraction which you can control to disrupt guard patrols. Rebirth gives Styx the ability to warp back to his clone, giving him an escape route if surrounded or a way to reach tricky places when used in conjunction with the Cocoon.

To help dispose of guards, especially those wearing heavy armour, Styx can now craft an Acid Trap which dissolves the bodies of unlucky enemies who step on it. This tactic is used heavily in the gameplay trailer, allowing goblin thieves to keep moving without having to drag bodies into dark places to cover your tracks.

As well as showing off Styx’ new gadgets, this trailer briefly shows off some of the areas you’ll be skulking round in Shards of Darkness, being the Wildoran the hunters’ village, the secret Sanctuary of the Dark Elven city Korrangar, and Thoben, the city of thieves.

Styx: Shards of Darkness is set to release on Steam in March 14 2017. Eager goblins can pre-order now to get 10% off the sale price, as well as the special Akenash set, which gives Styx the outfit and dagger from his first adventure.
