Good news, everyone: The World of Warcraft Blood Elf makeover is in progress

While almost all of Azeroth is swanning about, looking fancy with their new character models, only the Worgen, Goblins and Blood Elves have been left out in the cold. The first two don’t care, because their character models look just as good as the new ones, but the Blood Elves were not so fortuitous. Worse, they had to look on as their Burning Crusade counterparts, the Draenei, got updated.

This unfortunate situation will soon be remedied. New models for the Barbies and Kens of World of Warcraft are on their way, and Artcraft offers up a glimpse of their new look.

World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor review in progress

Welcome to my review in progress for World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor, Blizzard’s nostalgic return to Warcraft’s roots. For the next two weeks I’ll be exploring Draenor, writing down my adventures and impressions on a daily basis. I’ll also be streaming my entire playthrough on our Twitch channel too, which is embedded below.

Be sure to check back regularly for my latest thoughts, and don’t be afraid to ask any questions in the comments section.

I've updated the review in progress with my level 100 endgame antics, and what there's to do in Draenor at max level.

Blizzard revert World of Warcraft dungeon loot changes after overwhelming fan feedback

Blizzard revert World of Warcraft dungeon loot changes after overwhelming fan feedback

Distribution of loot has always been a hot topic in World of Warcraft; one that’s been refined for over a decade. In Mists of Pandaria, a new loot system dubbed “Personal Loot" ruled the Raid Finder - a system which gives each player an individual chance of receiving an item appropriate to their class and spec.

It was such a success, that Blizzard used the system for Warlords of Draenor’s five-man dungeons. However, it was quickly reverted back to the old “Need before Greed" system after “team" and “community" feedback.

This wasn’t entirely true though, and less than 24 hours later of outcry and petitions, Blizzard put Personal Loot back as the default system for instance queue found groups; along with increasing the rewards for both systems.

World of Warcraft steps through the Dark Portal and reclaims subscription figures of the past

A couple of months ago, subscriber numbers for World of Warcraft had dropped just under 7 million, which is still an absurdly massive number. One, however, that’s still far from its 12 million peak in 2010.

With the launch of Warlords of Draenor, though, the MMO has seen a huge spike in subscriptions, getting it close to its heyday numbers.

Diablo III 2.1.2 patch notes speak of even Greater Rifts and ancient items

In a world where angels and demons throttle each other on the regular, things don’t age in quite the same way. In Sanctuary, ancient items don’t pale and wane or dissolve on exposure to sunlight: they benefit from stats up to 30% better than their legendary equivalents.

Ancient rarity items are just one pillar of a characteristically far-reaching Diablo III patch announced at BlizzCon 2014 - and now taking shape in the public test realm.

World of Warcraft subscribers are getting five days of extra game time due to Warlords of Draenor's "subpar launch"

Warlords of Draenor’s launch has been very shaky, worse than any WoW expansion launch that I can remember. Our Nick, who has left behind sleep and a social life to review it, spent the first few days queuing more than playing, and when he did get in, he found himself trapped in his garrison.

At least he managed to get in, something I haven’t managed to do since the first hour of the launch. But I really gave up trying after two days. It’s unfortunate, but all is not lost. Or at least money and time isn’t, because everyone with a subscription from November 14th just got five free days of game time.

Blizzard say World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor server problems aren’t because of cost-cutting

Since launch, Warlords of Draenor’s been plagued with server queues. It’s the case with every major MMO expansion, everyone piles into the game and the servers fill up. However, Blizzard are adamant there’s nothing they could do to avoid the crush.

“There is no problem I've had in the last 72 hours I could fix with money," World of Warcraft’s senior server engineer tweeted. “If there was I'd do it."

Blizzard phase out the entire continent of Draenor to combat server issues

The latest expansion to World of Warcraft, Warlords of Draenor, has had some major teething issues when It comes to server stability. Players have experienced long queues, disconnects and being stuck in their Garrisons shortly after launch; even my review in progress has been temporarily halted.

As Blizzard finished up a round of realm maintenances this morning, they’ve announced a big change in an effort to reduce the amount of these issues occurring. Using their phasing technology, they’ve applied it to the entire continent of Draenor.

“This will allow us to run multiple copies of Draenor simultaneously, spreading out server population" said Blizzard community manager Bashiok.

More than 2,000 people have signed a petition demanding that the Obama Administration address Warlords of Draenor’s server lag.

It’s currently one of the more popular petitions on The White House site, behind ‘End daylight savings time. Pick standard time or daylight savings time and leave the clocks alone’  but ahead of a demand for the ‘Disclose all UFO/alien related documents’.

World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor's Spires of Arak previewed as launch trailer appears

Our Nick’s spent the night working on his Warlords of Draenor review-in-progress, but you’ve probably spent it sleeping. You’ve yet to pass through the portal into the alternate orcish realm.

In that case, you’ll want to take a look at Blizzard’s latest trailer - and maybe hear a little about the grumpy winged beasts awaiting you on the Spires of Arak.

How StarCraft II's Legacy of the Void Archon mode is going to work

Legacy of the Void will make your Protoss fantasies come true, so long as you’re not responsible for some of the odder space-elf fan art available on Google Images. But it’ll also introduce something potentially more exciting to the world’s biggest RTS: shared-base co-op played out on one-versus-one maps.

Blizzard have dubbed the idea Archon Mode. And since BlizzCon 2014 wrapped, they've been busy explaining its ins and outs.

Topic of the Week: What do you want to do in Warlords of Draenor above all else?

Tomorrow night, World of Warcraft will grow another limb, a continent shaped one that you’ll need to travel back in time and leap across the universe to witness. Warlords of Draenor’s is just a bit silly. But it’s also full of potentially nifty new additions to the decade-old MMO, like player-run garrisons and lots of raids and dungeons, one of which is on a blooming train.

For our Topic of the Week, we want to know what you want to do on Draenor above all else. Is it building up your garrison, hiring workers and even mercenaries to help you as you kill countless new green-skinned foes? Or maybe you’ll be rushing through all the new content so you can start raiding? Let us know in the comments.

Blizzard: Hearthstone RNG "actually increases the level of skill required to master the game"

Mine any decently-sized Hearthstone comment thread for long enough and you’ll hit a complaint about its randomness. Chance is woven into the push and pull of the game, and that’s only going to become more true once the cards in Hearthstone’s Goblins vs Gnomes expansion hit.

Blizzard are wary of putting their card game in an early grave marked ‘RNG’ - but they also think an element of randomness is crucial for surprising and challenging long-term players.

What Blizzard won't change about WoW legendaries in Warlords of Draenor

The weekend’s BlizzCon coverage has been rightly concentrated around Blizzard’s Overwatch - the redemptory multiplayer FPS recovered from the wreckage of intended WoW follow-up Titan. But let us not forget: a new expansion for what might be the best MMORPG on PC is fast-approaching.

On Saturday, a panel of high-ups from the Warlords of Draenor dev team did their best to answer questions about legendaries, and how they might or might not change in the coming months.

Here's all the spoiled cards coming to Hearthstone's new expansion: Goblins vs Gnomes

It was a busy time for Hearthstone at this year’s BlizzCon - a new expansion was announced: Goblins vs Gnomes. It’ll feature 120 brand new cards themed around the fantastical, and often random inventions of both races. Unlike the latest Adventure, Curse of Naxxramas, you won’t need to buy the expansion as a whole, instead you’ll purchase a new Goblins vs Gnomes booster pack; or win them from the arena.

We’ve gathered all the cards that have been spoiled to date - 30 at the time of writing - so you can take a gander at them all, and start plotting your explosive decks today. Check back regularly as more cards are spoiled!
