Blizzard nerf Undertaker after Hearthstone balance wobble

Blizzard might have designed Goblins vs Gnomes to ensure that neither side could ever truly overcome the other, but one card introduced in the game's Naxxramas campaign overstepped its worth in mana. Undertaker was “frustrating to play against" - and has had its stats tweaked to make Hearthstone a “more fun and interactive game for everyone".

World of Warcraft now does selfies (with black-and-white filters if you want them)

Our fantasy worlds are filled with not-so-subtle allusions to technical equipment beyond the limits of their fiction. Blood Bowl has the CAMRA - a bound spirit in a box whose mental image is transmitted by a team of magicians using the spell Cabalvision. And now World of Warcraft is getting S.E.L.F.I.E.s in Warlords of Draenor patch 6.1.

Boss: Blizzard release a who's who of Warlords of Draenor's next raid, Blackrock Foundry

A grand raid opening doesn’t just happen the once. While the Blackrock Foundry will welcome players at Normal and Heroic difficulties from February 3, Barbara Windsor or whoever will have to return to cut the ribbon again on five subsequent occasions over two months. There’ll be new wings of the orc weapons factory unlocking week by week.

The halls we can’t yet prowl, however, we can read about. Blizzard have started talking up the Warlords of Draenor raid we’ll start to get to know in February.

Watch a man's journey to Hearthstone legend in order to become a Blizzard game designer

This a story about a Hearthstone player called Schaard, who desperately wanted to become a Hearthstone game designer for Blizzard. Lucky for him, Blizzard opened its doors for that very position, and Schaard - freshly graduated - ticked many of the requirements that were asked of potential recruits.

All but one: “Legendary status in Hearthstone or Top 8 in a pro tour in Magic: the Gathering."

While the latter was pretty much out of the question, the former, wasn’t. So Schaard documented his quest for legend status in the medium of video, and we’ve got it below.

Diablo 3's got a new Lord of Terror: really bad lag

It’s hard to kill demons and gather up mountains of loot and gold when you’re faced with lots of horrible lag. Since the weekend, Diablo III players have been reporting “major lag" that renders the game unplayable, even in the single-player mode. And it looks like it’s not been restricted to just one region.

Blizzard is looking into it, and hasn’t ruled out some shady plan being carried out by minions of the Lord of Terror.

World of Warcraft's Veteran Edition is just a Starter Edition trial for lapsed players

Speculation about World of Warcraft going free-to-play never seems to cease, and more fuel was added to the fire recently when, last week, MMO-Champion uncovered details of a new account type coming in the 6.1 patch: Veteran Edition.

This account type has caps on gold and experience and other limitations that make it seem a lot like the trial account otherwise known as the Starter Edition. And that’s exactly what it is, Blizzard has confirmed today. It’s a trial account for lapsed players.

Watch a StarCraft: Brood War tournament for student-made bots

The Student StarCraft AI Tournament is a bit like poking a bear. First held in 2011, it tasks students of AI and computer science to submit bots for 1v1 StarCraft battles. It might not happen this year, but one day, these bots will surely grow tired of fighting their fake future wars and rise up against us. And with all that training, they’ll surely win.

Diablo 3 patch 2.1.2 is now live. It adds Ancient Items, rebalances the Greater Rifts, and much more

Blizzard have proven themselves again to be one of the studios most dedicated to supporting their games post-release. Diablo 3’s 2.1.2 patch goes through each class and feature of the game with a tiny weighing scale to make sure everything is balanced.

Most exciting in 2.1.2 are the new ancient items that are even more powerful versions of some of the game’s best legendary gear. The Greater Rifts have been rebalanced, too, so now they are more fair and pay out more gold.

Blizzard's Overwatch trademark suspended following likelihood conflict with smartphone app

Ooops - Blizzard are in for a headache, as the trademark for their team-based shooter, Overwatch, has been suspended. The meddlesome reason for the suspension is due to a predated trademark by smartphone app company Innovis Labs, Inc. who have an app called Overwatch.

Blizzard have not responded to the “conflict of likelihood" raised by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, resulting in their application being suspended until further notice.
