Blizzard introduce "WoW Token", which is like EVE's PLEX for World of Warcraft

World of Warcraft players will soon be able to spend real money on an in-game item, the “WoW Token", that can be redeemed for thirty days of game time or sold to another player for in-game gold. It’s highly reminiscent of EVE’s PLEX, which effectively allows the game’s most proficient and wealthy players to use their gold to pay for their subscriptions.

Join World of Warcraft player "Doubleagent" as he dings level 100 as a neutral Pandaren

Somewhere, in the lands of Azeroth, a neutral Pandaren is on the cusp of hitting a world first milestone. World of Warcraft player, Doubleagent, is a mere couple days away from hitting level 100 on his factionless Pandaren character; achieved entirely through the picking of herbs.

For this achievement, he’s invited everyone and anyone to come and join him via an “Open Raid", on Tuesday, March 3rd. “The plan is to have a little tour of the isle before turning 100 next to one of the nodes, just to be a little reminiscent of the Level 90 event." said Doubleagent.

The best Hearthstone decks for beginners

The best Hearthstone decks for beginners

Updated to include Curse of Naxxramas and Goblin versus Gnomes cards.

Hearthstone is one of those games that can be quite deceiving when it comes to its depth. Built with the pride of being easily accessible, only a fool would think that same pride makes for a shallow game. Instead Hearthstone provides a great arena in a battle of intellect, skill and the occasional luck. The saying “a day to learn, a lifetime to master" could very well have some merit here. It certainly did when I was writing my Hearthstone review.

Not long ago Blizzard released a revamped ranked matchmaking system. Now players climb the ladder to attain fame, glory and legendary status. Understanding the mechanics and having knowledge of the cards isn’t enough: you need to have a great deck. With an ever changing meta, we’re here to lend you a helping hand. In this guide we’ll give you two exceptional decks for each class: one for a beginner requiring little dust, and one more for the advanced and costly.

Diablo 3 could be getting microtransactions in non-US areas

Update: It looks like Korea and Europe are safe, too. Forum posts on Battle.net show Blizzard denying that microtransactions will be implimented in the EU and the Korean/Taiwan server. It looks like the Asian markets are the main intended audience, specifically China.

Blizzard have spoken about some interesting features that may be discovered in Diablo 3’s 2.2.0 patch. Specifically, features that appear to allude to microtransactions. Before information is data mined and featured at the top of every forum web-wide, the developer decided to clarify what these features would mean.

Microtransactions are coming, it would appear. Just not in America.

Blizzard slow down Starcraft II combat pace as an experiment; more testing before "final call"

In a recent Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void dev update, Blizzard have revealed an astionishing experiment that could change Starcraft II forever. Blizzard are toying with the idea of slowing down the combat of Starcraft II, by decreasing the attack speed of all units by 40%.

"Is this a positive change that makes games better?" asked game balance designer David Kim. "We're just not sure of this yet."

World of Warcraft will provide colour blind options in next update

As anyone with colour blindness will tell you, trying to read a game’s HUD and interface can be an absolute nightmare. Developers frequently forget that for many people certain colours are impossible to distinguish, which is problematic when colour is used to show information like friendly or enemy players, or how rare and item is.

World of Warcraft relies quite heavily on colour to inform, so it’s about time that it had options for people with colour vision issues. Thankfully they’re coming in the next patch.

World of Warcraft graphics update coming in 6.1 patch

Blizzard’s been working on making the positively ancient World of Warcraft look better for its next patch, 6.1. The update will bring back anti-aliasing of the MSAA and SSAA variety and textures will all look considerably more detailed thanks to Nvidia’s HBAO+.

If none of that made sense then, suffice to say, a wizard did it.

The Lost Vikings plunder Heroes of the Storm in new beta update

Blizzard’s mash-up MOBA, Heroes of the Storm, is enjoying the newly acquired company of The Lost Vikings - a new three-in-one hero for players to use in the Nexus. The addition is a first for the game, as it marks the first hero not associated with either World of Warcraft, Diablo or Starcraft.

The nordic trio first made their debut back in 1993 on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, but were re-released for free via Blizzard’s Battle.net store.

More allegations of match-fixing and illegal betting activity in pro StarCraft

A couple weeks ago, betting site Pinnacle Sports voided all bets on a Proleague match based on what they deemed suspicious betting patterns that made them think some bettors had some foreknowledge of the match’s results. Now, over this past weekend, Axiom eSports manager Olivia Wong vented on Twitter that match-fixing has become endemic in the Korean StarCraft 2 scene.

She implicated several tournaments in her comments, and suggested that some pro players were even working with bettors to fix match-results.
