The Humble Square Enix Bundle throws Hitman, Thief and even Anachronox at you

The Humble Square Enix Bundle throws Hitman, Thief and even Anachronox at you

With the Humble 2K Bundle only just behind us, Square Enix is now getting in on the cheap games and charity action with the Humble Square Enix Bundle. Some cracking games, like Thief and the woefully under appreciated Anachronox - which is, incidentally, one of the titles in our 15 best RPGs on PC - are up for grabs.

The charities being supported by this bundle are GameAid and Make a Wish. Though I’m not sure anyone would want Daikatana, even if it is for charity.

Humble 2K Bundle: Buy eight games for $20 and help out two charities

2K is getting in on the Humble Bundle action for the next two weeks, offering up over $200 of games while supporting the American Red Cross and Action Against Hunger.

You can pay what you want for the original BioShock, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified and The Darkness II. You’ll walk away with two great games and two charities will be a wee bit better off.

Summer Games Done Quick: speedrunning charity marathon raises $100k in two days

Sonic, Mirror’s Edge, Mario Kart. Some of this planet’s best-loved games are about momentum. And Games Done Quick are in the noble business of making every game about shaving those seconds down to the root.

Twice a year, volunteers play games at incredible speed for the appreciation of a streaming audience. This time, they do so to provide medical care to people in more than 65 countries. And they’ve already made $100,000.

Humble PC and Android Bundle pairs Skulls of the Shogun with its opposite - Metal Slug 3

Did you know? You can play convincing approximations of Firaxis’ XCOM and Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition on mobile phones these days. Between those and the DOSBox apps the GOG community are determined to twist to their existing game libraries, Android devices have become capable little pretend PCs.

That’s a fact Humble’s PC and Android bundles have always sought to highlight - pulling together games with fully-supported, functionally identical versions across both platforms. On this, the tenth occasion, that means Metal Slug 3 and turn-based good times that begin with Skulls of the Shogun.

"Hold on to your butts": two weeks of Humble Daily Bundles have already begun

The groundswell goodwill that accompanied the launch of the original Humble Indie Bundle could never last forever, though its impact on the way games are sold might. The gratitude has since subsided into grumblings about bundle saturation - but an emphasis on quality control has ensured Humble themselves have managed to keep their heads above a sea of rival bundlers.

If there were anything capable of threatening that level of quality, it’d be a move from weekly to daily bundles. But the current Deep Silver deal suggests we can expect the usual standard.

This week's Humble Sale is a corker from SEGA

This week’s Humble Sale is a bit of a corker. It’s from SEGA, and includes a good mix of old and new(er) titles.

Pay anything and you’ll net yourself Alpha Protocol, Rome: Total War, Company of Heroes and Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit. Rome and Company of Heroes are phenomenal games and should be in the library of any strategy fans, while Alpha Protocol and Hell Yeah! are a bit more uneven, but still entertaining.

Codemasters puts together Humble Bundle for charity

The Humble Bundle weekly sale is an offering from Codemasters. Seven games and an expansion are available from the DiRT, Overlord and Operation Flashpoint franchises.

You can donate your payment to Special Effect, a charity which helps people with disabilities play video games. Special Effect uses modified controllers and eye-control devices that allow people to enjoy games regardless of their physical ability.

Bohemia Humble Bundle nets you developer's back catalogue. Won’t cost you an Arma ‘n a leg

Bohemia’s becoming big in the news lately with the Early Access release of DayZ Standalone and Arma III. The folk at Humble Bundle are capitalising on this with a sale of Bohemia’s back catalogue, all the old Arma games and Take on Helicopters are included.

There are a couple of others you may not realise were made be Bohemia, too.

Humble Bundle and GOG Black Friday discount all the games

Don’t be swayed by the discount prices offered across digital storefronts this weekend, the shops are teaming up in a concerted effort to empty your wallet. It’s all a ploy by the government to kickstart the economy. Sure, folk say we’re escaping from recession but it’s all propaganda. Bob from the pub told me.

So on no account should you go to Humble Bundle and GOG to buy all their temptingly cheap games.

Definitely don’t buy Hostile Waters, one of the greatest games to grace the PC, for $1.79.

Steam update lets you download games while you’re playing. Spare Humble keys now giftable

Humans are bad multitaskers. The number of times I’ve tried to drink tea and shower and ended up with a watery tea and scalded chest, well, it doesn’t bear mentioning. (Note to imitators: life was made much less burny after I invested in one of these.) Till now Steam has modelled itself on mankind in that regard, downloading one game while playing another, while possible, was unintuitive. The latest update to the Steam client fixes that little problem.

Other snippets of Steam news are that Humble now let you give away your spare Steam keys and Project CARS are developing a version of the game to run natively on SteamOS.

Humble Indie Bundle 9 headlined by FEZ and FTL

After all the THQ, Origin and those non-game bundles, you may have forgotten that these Humble’s began with Indie Bundles. The ninth of those collections has reared its head today and is quite the corker, with FTL and FEZ taking the top spots in a gem-laden lineup.

Humble Origin Bundles sold to over two million; "WHOA"

While EA’s humility remains intact thanks to a 100% donation of their cut to six charities, the numbers are now anything but. Two weeks on and with scarcely a day and a half left, Humble Bundle and the Worst Company in America have breached the two million sales mark. They’ve earned their chosen institutions a combined - gosh, really? - $9,857,595 to date.

Humble Origin Bundle augmented with Populous and C&C: Red Alert 3 - Uprising

Update: Tiny UK charity GamesAid have been added to Bundle's list of beneficiaries. They harness the talents of games industry types to raise funds for children's charities in the UK, as well as for education, health, housing and welfare initiatives abroad. They've missed the first nine days of sales, though, so could do with a bit of a push.

Before Command & Conquer 4 rewrote the formula so that it didn’t quite add up and reduced everything to dust, there was EA LA’s standalone Red Alert 3 expansion, Uprising. And lo, it was quite good.

Long before that, there was Populous. You probably know all about that one.

Pay more than the average for a Humble Origin Bundle and you’ll get both, alongside a cross-selection of EA’s recent finest.

Humble Origin Bundle becomes fastest-selling bundle since records began

How did we reach this point? From the original pack of indie greats, through a temporary alliance with a crumbling THQ, to the point where EA are happy to open up their back catalogue to be bundled and sold off for a pittance. But though the Humble Bundle may have lost its middle name, there is a strong measure of humility here: EA are donating all of their profits to charity.

The move - not to mention the back catalogue - has clearly resonated with players, who’ve made this bundle the fastest selling in Humble Bundle history.

Humble Origin Bundle is packed with great games. EA giving their cut to charity

EA have partnered with the Humble Bundle to sell some great games for low prices, all in aid of some fine charities. Usually when buying from Humble Bundle you can choose how much of your money goes to Humble, the charity, and the developers but EA have opted to give all their proceeds to the charities.

For as little as $1 you can get Dead Space 3, Mirror’s Edge, Crysis 2 and more.

The Humble Deep Silver Bundle contains great games and not so great games

Back before THQ entered the burning hellfires of bankruptcy it ran the Humble THQ Bundle, raising the ailing publisher more than $5 million. I’ve a hunch the Humble Deep Silver Bundle may fall short of that. It contains Saints Row 3 and all its DLC (Yay) but also Risen 2: Dark Waters (boo) and Dead Island: Riptide (boo-er).

Very much a mixed bag.
