Team Fortress 2's Gun Mettle update adds CS:GO like weapon skins and campaigns

Team Fortress 2 is a few hours away from receiving one of its biggest updates yet. The Gun Mettle update will offer a campaign to players, providing two contracts per week for three months, giving them specific challenges to fulfill. If you’re good enough, you’ll be awarded with a brand new weapons case, which contains juicy new weapons that sport unique skins.

Even if you don’t want to pay the $5.99, it’s all good - although the majority of the new maps are tied to the Gun Mettle Campaign pass, a brand new Valve-made map will be free for everyone.

Dota 2 International 2015 prize pool achieves $15 million dollars; Axe immortal and comic unlocked

Well, it was inevitable really. Valve are now boasting a whopping $15 million dollar prize pool for the biggest eSports event in history: the Dota 2 International 2015. With the final stretch goal unlocked, providing all International Compendium owners a shiny new Axe immortal item plus a comic, there’s two questions that remain.

Will Valve add more stretch goals? And if they do, could this not even be close to the final prize pool?

Valve will no longer return in-game Steam items to scam victims

Valve have shifted their position on item recovery for victims of Steam scams, and will no longer reimburse those who fall prey to it, with the chief reason being that scams are too easily identifiable.

“We provide enough information on our website and within our trading system to help users make good trading decisions." said Valve. “All trade scams can be avoided."

Dota 2 Reborn is Valve's huge new Source 2 engine update

Valve have announced plans to completely overhaul Dota 2, bringing with it a new client, user interface, custom games support and more, all tied within the Source 2 engine. Dota 2 International 2015 prize pool soars past $13 million dollars

Less than a week ago, Valve’s Dota 2 International and its prize pool had shattered records yet again, becoming the biggest eSports kitty in history after surpassing last year’s $10.9 million dollars. Since then, the Dota 2 community has managed to lump on another $2.1 million dollars in just six days, and it’s still growing.

Valve’s goal of $15 million dollars seems all but an inevitability at this point.

Valve's Vive VR devkit is reaching developers, and looks sort of complicated

The first batch of HTC Vive headsets are turning up on the doorsteps of major movie studios, AAA developers and indie teams alike. They come with a set of instructions, which turn out not to be the sort you can leave in the wrapping for three weeks before throwing out with the junk mail. This Valve-approved VR device is a finickity piece of kit.

Dota 2 International 2015 prize pool is now the biggest ever in eSports

What’s the word for when something you have huge expectations for massively, improbably eclipses those expectations? Well, that: sales of Dota 2’s compendium have seen The International 2015 prize pool deepen and widen to a size large enough to hold more than $11 million.

That means Valve’s tournament now boasts the largest prize pool for any one event in the history of eSports, with 65 days yet to go.

No big deal.

Steam will now give you a refund for "any reason" after policy update

Valve has just massively overhauled its Steam refund policy, allowing customers to apply for refunds on “nearly any purchase", and for “any reason". There are some small dependencies of course, and refunds differ between different types of products e.g. bundles, movies etc.

But the good news is, for the most part, Valve will give your dosh back if you’re unhappy.

Source 2 version of Dota 2 spotted on SteamDB; could debut at The Dota 2 International

SteamDB has spotted Valve pushing several versions of Dota 2 in the new Source 2 engine. There’s a version for each of the 32-bit and 64-bit Windows, Mac, Linux, and other clients such as the low-violence versions used in China.

These hibernating updates could signal that Valve aim to bring Source 2 to the public very, very soon - so soon as to have them in place for this year’s Dota 2 International.
