The Park is Funcom’s upcoming horror game, and it plays on your Goosebumps fears

The Park Funcom

Funcom have announced that they’re working on an atmospheric horror title set in an abandoned theme park, and it’s due out in October.

Putting you in the shoes of a mother, Lorraine, searching for her child, Callum, it’s a “short but intense” adventure, in the Secret World & Dreamfall developer’s words. Funcom’s last few games have been sprawling MMOs, so The Park marks a change of pace for them.

The video, which I should warn you contains a heck of a lot of flashing images, takes you on a rollercoaster ride through the world’s most foreboding amusement park while Lorraine sings a creepy song, because that’s just how she deals with stress, alright?

Here’s what Funcom boss Rui Casais had to say about how the game came about:

“The Park is actually the outcome of what started with a small group of developers experimenting with new concepts and looking at how we could draw upon the universes we have built for our massively multiplayer online games and expand upon them into smaller-scale single-player games. Something special started to take shape, and The Park ultimately became something we are eager to share with the rest of the world.”

The announcement comes as the Norwegian studio seeks a buyout following disappointing sales of its last game, Lego Minifigures Online.
