Major Game of Thrones’ actor to appear in The Witcher 3

Charles Dance and the character he plays in The Witcher 3.

The Witcher 3 was already on track to be a very good game, but now it might finally have the key ingredient for greatness: an icy English villain.

Charles Dance, who played Game of Thrones’ Machiavellian patriarch Tywin Lannister, will be playing a major character in The Witcher 3. CD Projekt have just released a video in which Dance discusses his first experience making a videogame.

Dance is portraying the Nilfgaardian emperor, who has cast a long shadow over the other games but always from the margins of the story. Here’s Dance discussing his thoughts about taking part in The Witcher 3.

It’s perfect casting, of course. Nilfgaard is an old empire that used to rule just about every single land you have visited in the previous Witcher games. It’s more cultured, sophisticated, and perhaps more powerful. It’s Byzantium and ancient Persia rolled into one, and Dance seems like a good choice to play its ruler.

That said, it’s a bit adorable as Dance talks about how much games have evolved and grown up and then you see a monster licking its gory chops or some zombies shambling through a field. It gives me flashbacks to Galaxy Quest.
