Titanfall to drop without modding tools, says Zampella

Titanfall to drop without modding tools

Titanfall has landed; here’s our Titanfall review.

Responding to a question on Twitter, Respawn Entertainment’s Vince Zampella clarified that upcoming mech n’ run shooter Titanfall would not be dropping with mod tools when the PC version arrives in March.

“[N]ot at launch for sure,” says Zampella when he was asked if there would be modding or mapping tools. “[W]e will have to revaluate after launch”. Oh bums.

It’s not a surprise, of course, what with Titanfall being the creation of several Call of Duty developers, along with the fact that Respawn is crafting very particular maps with dynamic objectives and a narrative running throughout them. Modding tools might dilute that if they came at launch, and certainly the studio will have to figure out exactly how such things would work in a structured game like Titanfall.

Titanfall is also a multiplatform title, with Microsoft ensuring special considerations are made for their latest platform, so extras for us PC folk shouldn’t have been expected on day one, even if the title is being developed on the highly moddable Source Engine.

Cheers, Gamespot.
