Top dog: Watch Dogs breaks Ubisoft record for first day sales

Watch Dogs sales

Watch Dogs is now out; here’s our Watch Dogs review.

A lot of people bought Watch Dogs yesterday. It’s no surprise given the long wait and heavy marketing. It didn’t just sell well, though, it outsold all other Ubisoft games at launch.

“I once said that the buzz around Watch Dogs was driven by the incredible passion of our early fans,” said creative director Jonathan Morin. “Today we broke the record for the biggest first day sales in Ubisoft history.

“Watch Dogs is an amazing achievement and our teams should be proud that the creativity, innovation and long hours they invested in making this game are paying off,” said Ubisoft head honcho Yves Guillemot.

You’ll have to wait a wee while longer for my review (it’s not a small game), but I will say that innovation is not a word I’d ascribe Watch Dogs. Though it does bost a few neat, yet ultimately derivative, features.

In the mean time, you can take a gander at my Port Inspection.

Regardless of whether or not it deserves such impressive sales, a successful new IP can only be a good thing, hopefully reminding franchise-loving Ubisoft that churning out Assassin’s Creed titles is not the only way to make a buck.
