It looks like 2016 will be a great year for strapping hulking goggles to our heads and looking really cool in our living rooms. Large quantities of Valve’s VR headset, Vive, will be shipping in Q1 2016, putting it in line with Sony’s Project Morpheus and the Oculus Rift.

While the main bulk of Vive headsets will be shipping in this window, Valve does plans to go ahead with a limited release this year, with HTC offering a limited quantity of community and developer systems in autumn.

The Vive might be a bit behind the Oculus Rift in terms of support, but there are currently 80 virtual reality titles in production for the system, according to the press release. Valve has also received over 10,000 inquiries for developer kits since announcement. Hopefully they have enough room to follow the instructions.

So 2016 is looking like the year most of us will be able to jump onboard the immersive VR train. Hopefully the proximity of the three main devices brings with it some competition when it comes to price points, because that will likely play a massive role in which bit of kit people go for.
